KPMG's Inspiration Grant: Partnership with the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and Lausanne (EPFL) on the occasion of KPMG Switzerland's 100th anniversary
On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, KPMG will be awarding KPMG's Inspiration Grants to research projects in the areas of health and the environment over the next two years. To qualify for support, projects must be scientific in nature, have entrepreneurial potential and also make a relevant contribution to the benefit of future generations. The idea is for researchers to receive this financial support at an early stage to help ensure that the next step of their projects is a success. The projects to be funded will be selected in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne.
Zürcher Treuhand-Vereinigung, the predecessor of today's KPMG Switzerland, was founded in December 1910. Over the course of an eventful century, KPMG Switzerland has evolved into a global enterprise with 1,600 employees - and is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010. KPMG is taking advantage of its 100th anniversary as an opportunity to promote bright ideas for tomorrow's society and, in doing so, express its gratitude for the attractive economic conditions, high academic level of educational institutions and intact infrastructures which have contributed to its success.
Capacity for innovation and a sense of responsibility
KPMG's economic success story has its roots in a simple six-man operation which gradually evolved into a leading company of around 1,600 employees. To a large extent, its development was driven by the innovative capacity and inspiration of its employees as well as a great sense of responsibility toward all its stakeholders. This was reflected in a long-term corporate strategy which transformed KPMG into one of the world's leading providers of audit and advisory services.
Bright ideas for tomorrow's society
Against this background, KPMG Switzerland has decided to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a major fundraising campaign, over the course of which both the employees and KPMG as a company will attempt to raise a total of CHF 1,000,000. In keeping with our anniversary motto, Inspiring Growth, the employees will set themselves high personal goals (e.g. in the area of sports or social commitment) and look for sponsors. They must reach their personal goals during the 2010 anniversary year and KPMG will match every franc collected.
In line with and in the spirit of the factors behind KPMG's successful history, all funds raised will go to benefit forward-looking research projects seeking out new solutions to problems in the areas of health (e.g. previously incurable diseases) and the environment (e.g. CO2-free technologies). To qualify for support, projects must be scientific in nature, have entrepreneurial potential and also make a relevant contribution to the benefit of future generations. The idea is for researchers to receive this financial support at an early stage to help ensure that the next step of their projects is a success.
KPMG's Inspiration Grant in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and Lausanne (EPFL)
At the heart of this anniversary campaign is a cooperative arrangement with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), whereby a joint jury made up of representatives from KPMG, ETH Zurich and EPFL will select the research projects to receive funding. This arrangement will enable the two universities to submit recommendations to the jury via their knowledge transfer offices to obtain funding for research projects being put together at ETH Zurich or EPFL.
KPMG's Inspiration Grants will be awarded to select projects which will then receive a substantial five or six-digit amount from KPMG's anniversary foundation to help them tackle their next big project phase and get the project as ready for the market as possible. Funding amounts will be calculated such that several research projects will be able to benefit from KPMG's Inspiration Grants although the total amount to be paid out will depend on the success of KPMG employees' fundraising efforts. Our anniversary credo - "100 years inspiring growth” - lives through personal commitment and the contributions of each and every person connected to KPMG Switzerland.
